There are a lot of small businesses that spend a lot on advertising and marketing their businesses but fail to maximise the result of their campaigns.

In my previous blog post, I shared why you need landing pages to convert your website traffics into leads and eventually buying customers to sales to increase (customer conversion). However, if you already have a landing page or a lead capture page that is converting your website traffics into leads which are a major breakthrough on its own. The process will be meaningless if in the end you do not convert majority of your captured leads into buying customers. The level of success that your business will achieve will depend on the amount of website traffics that you convert into buying customers at the end of your sales funnels.

Your conversion rate must be improving at all times , so there you must not focus on just generating leads but also focus on generate sales through your unconverted leads, here I mean any leads in your list that has not bought from you. I can honestly tell you that your unconverted leads are a goldmine sitting in your business. To explain this further, an unconverted lead is somebody who has expressed interest in your offer but has not followed through and bought from you yet. The following strategies will help you to work out your unconverted leads until they either buy from you or tell you to go away which is simply a way of filtering and refining your leads.

  1. YOU MUST HAVE AN EMAIL LIST AND DO MULTIPLE FOLLOW UP

In order for you to collects information of your leads, you must have a system where you store all the information of your list with more emphasis on an online business, I mean an auto responder service such as Aweber or Getresponse. Unfortunately, most people give up early by following once or twice but it can actually take an average of 7 points contacts to convert a lead into a buying customer but this may also depends on your niche market as it varies from one niche to another.

Therefore, you must have a system in place for multiple follow-ups by email, direct mail, telephone calls or other forms of marketing that will help you relate and engage with your leads or market. The point is that you must ensure that you are communicating with your leads or market again and again.

  1. ASK FOR REFERRALS FROM YOUR CUSTOMER

This strategy is effectively powerful for both online and offline marketing strategies. This is simply the process of you as  small business owners asking your current buying customers to introduce your business to other potential customers. Before you spend money on advertising, ensure that your customers introduce your business to other people such as relatives, friends etc, let them give you new customers for free through referrals. There are lot of businesses that get majority of their customers through this strategy and it can also work for your business both online and offline. You must be proactive and take action by approaching your current customers for referrals ensure that you have a referral culture in your business by building a system to encourage referrals for instance just imagine if every customer bring one person to your business and that person brings another, you may never have to do any marketing or advertising every again.

 

  1. ASK FOR REFERRALS FROM SUPPLIERS (Retail)

If you are in the retail business, you can go to your suppliers to find out who they know that could be potential customers of yours. You can simply ask your suppliers for the contact details of these potential customers and follow them up.

 

  1. LOOK FOR JOINT VENTURE

In case you are not in retails, you can look for businesses with large customer base or large email list in your niche and negotiate with them to introduce your business or products to their email list. Please careful that those who you want to do joint venture with are not your direct competition but sell a congruent product to yours.
