As entrepreneurs or small business owners, it is important for you to have goals and objectives for your business. Majority of people that you know either they are in business or not have one goal or many goals that they are aiming to achieve in their life or career. However, the problem that majority of unsuccessful people have in common is that they do not know how to set the goals let alone complete them. This can be very frustrating which then lead them into giving up their goals or entire dreams. You may be thinking that this is a sad story or may be you can relate to it. There are also other groups of people who keep setting goals but never achieve them, some start but never finish them (i.e. business goals, projects or tasks); thereby not feeling fulfilled and may be referred to as unsuccessful in such projects or business goals. On the other hand, successful people are those that know how to set up goals for their lives as well as in business and they are very good at completing their projects or goals. IDEA 1 :- MAKE YOUR GOALS SPECIFIC
This may sound very simple but it is powerful if you start to specify your goals instead of generalizing them. This will give you a laser targeting approach to focus on such specific goals. For example, if you ask any unsuccessful entrepreneur or business owner what they want in their business, they normally respond this way, “I want to make more money”, I want to have a business”, I want to able to go on holiday”. As you can notice, they only generalize their goals, which make the goals big and hard in their mind. However, the goals will be a lot easy to achieve only if they are being specific such as “I want to make £1000 per month in my business”, “I want to generate 10 new customers daily to my business”, I want to travel to Paris this year” etc. This makes the goals easy for the mind to capture. This concept is powerful; make all your goals Specific.
IDEA 2 :- GIVE A MEANING TO YOUR GOALS
Once you have a specific goal, you must ensure that you know and understand the reason why you are setting this goal. It must mean something to you (i.e it is of a great importance to you and your family if you achieve such goal). For instance, “I want to make an extra £1000 in my business to support my children’s education or to pay the mortgage for the family home”. You must understand that if you have no meaning for your goals (your why), there will be no purpose for the goal and you may never take any action in achieving such goal.
IDEA 3 :- TAKE MASSIVE ACTION STEPS
Once you understand the purpose of your goals, you must draw out action plans in achieving such goals such as acquiring knowledge for you to implement or get the required tools or resources that will help you in achieving the goals.
IDEA 4 :- BE REALISTIC ON YOUR GOALS
This is about being honest with yourself and don’t try to be a super hero. You must understand and define your goals such as putting them in a categories either they are Easy or Hard goals. You must know if the goals are doable or not. If they are achievable then go for it, please do not be discouraged here, all goals are achievable, hard goals simply means you will be required to come out of your comfort zones such as if your goal is to create your own information product such as online video course and you hate public speaking, this may be your hard goals which mean you must get the right skills and knowledge by getting a mentor or coach to help you in order to get it done.
IDEA 5 :- DEFINE WHAT YOU NEED TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS
Once you know what types of goals you are setting either Easy or Hard Goals. You must define all that you need to make the goals achievable such as acquiring more knowledge or improving your skills by self development, reading a book, studying a course, getting a mentor or coach. It could be buying new tools or resources or employing an expert but ensure that you get the right tools or people that will help you achieve your business goals. Ensure that you are constantly improving yourself too.
IDEA 6 :- SET UP A TIME DEADLINE (PROGRAM YOUR GOALS)
This is as import as the above steps, you must stay disciplined and ensure that all your goals have deadline, this will motivate you to complete them. In best practices, it is better to break down your goals into small tasks that are easy to achieve. So make sure that you have a schedule for you goals and be discipline to keep them. This will motivate you to achieve them
IDEA 7 :- MEASURE YOUR GOALS
How will you know that you have achieved your goals if you don’t measure them? Ensure that you keep records of all your goals and clearly identify the ones that are already completed and those that have not been completed.
